Abby Corpus
Canadian soprano and actor Abby Corpus (she/her) is currently based on Treaty 1 Territory, colonially known as Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she studies under Canadian soprano Tracy Dahl as a Post-Baccalaureate student at the Desautels Faculty of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Victoria where she studied under Dutch soprano Anne Grimm and worked closely with several other teachers and coaches including Benjamin Butterfield and Dr. Kinza Tyrrell. Recent operatic credits include Justine in Offenbach's La jolie parfumeuse (Halifax Summer Opera Festival), Aréthuse in Charpentier's Actéon (Victoria Baroque), and Josephine in the World Premiere of An Occurrence at Seal Island (Vocalypse Productions), a solo mini-opera by American composer Dana Howell.
Last season saw Abby in her Victoria Symphony debut as the Guest Vocalist in the Best of Broadway concert alongside Tony Award-nominated performer Melissa Errico, as well as two music theatre role debuts, firstly as Johanna in Sweeney Todd (VOS Musical Theatre) then later as Anne in A Little Night Music (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival) directed by Broadway performer Elena Shaddow. She also led and facilitated the division of a multi-media performance work entitled March Madness: An Exploration of Operatic Hysteria, working as the producer and director as well as a performer. This project was an opera/theatre crossover piece examining the relationship between femininity and insanity as it is portrayed onstage in both classical and contemporary contexts.
In addition to her work as a performer, Abby has a wealth of experience in theatrical production and management and also works regularly as a voice teacher, music director, and theatre educator. Dedicated to the art of learning, she is equally excited about teaching and inspiring creativity as she is about growing in her craft and delving into new avenues to creative exploration.
