Abby Corpus
SOPRANO & ACTOR

Canadian coloratura soprano Abby Corpus (she/her) is originally from Victoria BC, where she completed a BMus in Voice Performance at the University of Victoria's School of Music studying under Dutch soprano Anne Grimm. She also holds a Diploma in Voice Performance from the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music where she studied under Canadian soprano Tracy Dahl, and this coming September she will be starting a MMus in Voice Performance at the University of Western Ontario's Don Wright Faculty of Music. She trains and performs regularly in both opera and music theatre, and has recently appeared as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony, Little Opera Company of Winnipeg, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and Flipside Opera.

Abby has worked with Pacific Opera Victoria for the past several years, appearing in the chorus of many mainstage productions and as a soloist for Pop Up Opera.
Some of her recent operatic repertoire includes Gretel in excerpts from Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel  and Gloria Cott in The House Without A Christmas Tree by Ricky Ian Gordon. A lover of both traditional opera as well as new work, she recently created and facilitated a collaborative devised opera piece entitled March Madness, exploring the relationship between femininity and insanity in opera. She made her Victoria Symphony solo debut as the Guest Vocalist in Best of Broadway with Melissa Errico, and her other work in music theatre includes Johanna in Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Anne Egerman in Sondheim's A Little Night Music . This year she was the winner of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society Trophy at the Winnipeg Music Festival for the most outstanding performance in Operetta, performing "Mein Herr Marquis" from Strauss II's Die Fledermaus, and she was the provincial recipient of the 1st Place Awards in the highest level of both the Operetta and Music Theatre categories at the Manitoba Provincial Music Festival.

In addition to her work as a performer, Abby has a wealth of experience in theatrical production and management and also works regularly as a voice teacher, music director, and theatre educator. Dedicated to the art of learning, she is equally excited about teaching and inspiring creativity as she is about growing in her craft and delving into new avenues to creative exploration.
